This edible cookie dough is so quick and easy to make! Just cook the flour, then whisk all the ingredients together! No mixer or special equipment required! We even made a video to show you just how easy it is!
Cooking the Flour
Uncooked flour (like raw eggs) can contain harmful bacteria, so it should not be eaten raw. Flour is normally always cooked in baked goods so you don’t have to worry about cooking it separately. But, since edible cookie dough is not baked, the flour can have bacteria in it. In order to solve this issue, all you need to do it bake the raw flour! There are two options for cooking the bacteria out of your flour:
- Spread the flour out on a baking sheet or pan that has edges (so the flour doesn’t just fall off!). Then, bake for 5 minutes at 350ºF. Then just let it cool while you are combining the butter, sugar, and vanilla together before adding it to the cookie dough!
- The second option is to cook the flour in the microwave. (Perfect for when you don’t want to turn on the oven in the summer heat!) Simply pour the flour into a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 1 and 1/2 minutes in 30 second intervals. In between each interval, stir the flour to make sure all of it gets properly cooked.
Either one works well, just make sure you take the extra time to use one of these methods so you don’t get sick! If you want to be extra sure that the bacteria is all cooked out of the flour, you can use a kitchen thermometer to make sure it is at least 160ºF.
