Apple Crumble

This dessert is the perfect balance between sweet, cinnamon apple filling and crispy oatmeal crumble. Top it off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and enjoy!

Yields: 12 servings
Ingredients
Oat Crumble Topping
  • 1 cup (105g) old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup + 2 Tablespoons (130g) packed brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 stick (8 Tablespoons; 113g) salted butter, softened
Apple Filling
  • 5 and 1/2 cups (1.5 pounds) peeled + diced apples (about 3-4 medium-sized apples) *See Notes
  • 1/4 cup (55g) packed brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 and 1/2 Tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
Instructions
To make the topping:
  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF.

  2. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the oats, flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Add the softened butter and use a fork to mix until combined. Set aside.

To make the filling:
  1. In a large bowl, use a spatula to combine the diced apples, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Pour the apple filling into a 8x8 square pan. Crumble oat topping over the top. Bake at 350ºF for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is crisp. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.

Recipe Notes

*You can use red or green apples (we used Gala apples). The apples should be diced into 1/2-inch cubes for reference.
